Braid hypeee

(Note:NONE of the below photos were taken by me, all rights reserved to the original camera men & women)

So many hairstyles recently have had a certain hype around them (lace fronts, lace closures, high buns etc) ..a few people will have a style and then everyone wants it but who can blame us! If something looks good on someone we want to see if it would look good on us! I think that's just the way us girls' minds work some times lol

Now braids (plaits) have been around for a longg timee (think Brandy & Janet Jackson)....

...hey, even a lot of us girls rocked cornrows when we were small but then this happened......

Solange got her big chunky braids (box braids) and the black community (and even some people in other ethnicities!) went NUTS! It was like braids all of a sudden became current again and everyone wanted a piece! But people got more creative! Two toned blonde and black braids, up do's, buns, braids but with the sides of your hair shaved! We were discovering that braids are pretty versatile!

I even had my share of braids once:

LOL!! as you can see mine were NOT that nice, but bare in mind this was 2008 haha

Pros of getting braided up
  • Its a stylish, hairstyle that makes you feel like your going back to your roots or back to the old days.
  • They're so easy to look after! Just wake up and shake your head and your ready to head out the door!
  • They can be more versatile than you think!
  • You can get loads of different colours without dying your hair
  • Low maintenance style for going on holiday (you won't sweat out your relaxer in the sun and your roots won't coil up in water when you swim LOL )
  • They can last a LONG time! especially if you re do the front.
Cons of getting braided up
  • You can't reaaaaaally switch up your parting if you get it plaited to one side
  • They can take hours and sometimes even days to do and then undo (been there, trust me it is a drag!)
  • They can be heavy! Especially with the trend of getting really long braids (some go past the bum!)
  • And if it's hot boy will it make your neck sweat lol!
For me personally I don't think I will go back to braids for a while simply because I like the freeness of rocking a weave or relaxed hair, I like being able to part my hair and have it flowing but my mind is always subject to change so who knows!

Would you rock the braids? Do the pros weigh out the cons? Have you currently got them
Share pics & let me know!

God Bless

  1. yep, braids are definately in! got some in hair now.....

your pros and cons are very on point. i understand the freedom and restrictions of braids, but right now i'm too lazy to relax my hair or do anything with it, so braids was the suitable option for me. before december 2011, i hadn't braided my hair for 2 years....
